We have an exciting communications specialist opportunity in our Merriam, Kan., office. In this highly impactful role, you will be a key member of the marketing and communications team. The communications specialist will coordinate and execute corporate communications programs and projects including publications, websites, media relations, corporate reports and communications evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, plan, and execute publications and digital communications, including editorial outlines, project timelines, writing, editing, and design collaboration.
  • Support the company’s strategic communications plan and corporate reputation through various programs and projects, including community relations.
  • Write clearly and effectively for various mediums, including print, video, and digital, and assist in print and video production.
  • Implement content update plans for the corporate website under leadership direction and maintain and distribute corporate communications digital assets.
  • Coordinate with external resources for special communications projects, including PR firms and freelance designers.
  • Develop, write, and edit news releases and content for company reports.
  • Conduct research and evaluate communications programs.
  • Provide communications support for community relations programs and assist with other community relations tactics.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural journalism, agricultural communications, communications, journalism or public relations.
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience in a corporate communications department or public relations agency.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, copy editing and proofing skills.
  • Understanding of communication theories and application in a work environment.
  • Knowledge and application of AP Style.
  • Ability to speak effectively and interview leadership and employees.
  • Excellent listening and analytical skills.

Preferred:

  • Basic Adobe PhotoShop and InDesign skills.
