ARC is one of nine national organizations that can offer accreditation to members. Accreditation is a recognized level of excellence within the public relations profession and signifies a demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability in the practice of public relations. An online study guide is available at the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB), for anyone wishing to investigate accreditation. People interested should allow for six months of study, followed by a readiness review and then a written exam.

Detailed information about the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) exam and application form to become a candidate for accreditation may be obtained from the Universal Accreditation Board web site at www.praccreditation.org.

The Agricultural Relations Council is the only association dedicated to serving the unique needs of public relations professionals working in agriculture, food, fiber and other related industries. ARC is a conduit for problem-solving, idea-sharing and collaboration among members, who share a passion for excellence in public relations.

ARC elects board members; shows excellent growth in membership, programs

By Den Gardner
Executive Director

The 2012 ARC annual meeting is history and the organization continues to make great strides from its rebirth three years ago. Highlights include:

  • Exceeding 100 members – with 106 as of the end of April. This reaches our goal of 100 by the end of 2012.
  • Don Lerch, founding member of the Agricultural Relations Council, and Lyle Orwig, with four decades of dedication to ag communications, were named the initial inductees of the Agricultural Public Relations Hall of Fame. The program is sponsored by the Agricultural Relations Council (ARC) and Agri Marketing magazine.
  • The Golden ARC awards had another significant increase in entries. Total submissions were up to 71 entries -- 59 were entered in 2011 and 38 in 2010.
  • Sponsorships were up to more than $11,000.
  • Annual meeting provided several professional development seminars, educational tours and an outstanding awards dinner.
  • Classes were held to assist members seeking PRSA accreditation.
  • ARC will collaborate again with the Ag Media Summit on the Silent Auction in Albuquerque in August. ARC also worked with NAMA on its programming for its April meeting in Kansas City.

Through the efforts of the ARC board of directors, and leadership of president Mace Thornton – and Deron Johnson before him – ARC is poised to provide the leadership to the industry to ag public relations professionals.
